Panel discussion: AI for good – for good business

- Advertisment -

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are fast moving out of the hype status and into the reality status. South African industry recently launched the AI Institute of South Africa, with the objective of consulting with government on AI policy, while also representing South Africa in global AI forums and initiatives.

The AI world is faced with many questions. How can we ensure that AI is for good and will not destroy itself and in the process, the world? Do we need global regulations? The debate between the late Steve Jobs and Elon Musk comes to mind. Musk believes that AI must be regulated while Jobs was adamant that it should not be, so that development would not be impeded by bureaucracy.

During the September EngineerIT panel discussion “AI for good for good business” six panellists discussed some of the most important questions:

  • Why enterprises should embrace AI
  • Where to start
  • How to win the confidence of their employees and
  • Whether or not it should be regulated by government verses a global UN regulated approach.

Participating in the discussion were:

Johan Steyn: Chair of the Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics with the IITPSA and Senior Manager: Process Innovation – IQbusiness

Jacques Ludik: Founder, CEO and Executive Chairman, Cortex group

Ryan Falkenberg: CEO CLEVVA

Vian Chinner: CEO Xineoh

Rudeon Snell: SAP Industries & Customer Advisory Global Industries

Harkrishan Singh:
Director Application Development In 2IT Technologies
