Make your data actionable from edge to cloud

- Advertisment -

In the past, operations technology (OT) data only needed to be processed and located on SCADA systems. Now, enabling industrial internet of things (IIoT) applications requires data to be transferred from OT devices to IT-based cloud services. You thus need a solution that can enable mass data acquisition, local intelligence, and data transfer to IT-based cloud services.

Fig. 1: Moxa’s ThingsPro uses three steps to speed up IIoT development.

Moxa’s IIoT gateway is an efficient, secure, and reliable solution that speeds up IIoT development for your industrial applications.

Edge intelligence – The ultimate enabler in an IIoT system

Edge Intelligence is helping IIoT systems process data instantaneously and closer to the source of the data, thereby reducing latency and communication costs.

Equipping IIoT edge devices with cloud intelligence

A new computing model that helps create autonomous edge nodes is changing the IIoT landscape. Edge nodes are data-aggregation points in an IIoT system where the physical world of the sensors and actuators interacts with computational resources such as IIoT gateway computers. This new computing model is based on edge nodes that are strengthened with local storage and computing power and enhanced with machine-learning algorithms that enable them to process data locally and make quick process-related decisions.

An intelligent edge node enables faster decisions in accordance with local identity management and access control policies, secures data close to its source, and reduces communication costs.
Edge intelligence is edge computing fortified with machine-learning or self-learning algorithms, advanced networking capabilities, and end-to-end security.

Moxa’s IIoT Edge Gateway family consists of cloud-ready edge computers that are optimised for IIoT applications to enable robust, secure data processing and transmission.

Three steps to speed up IIoT development

Easy and fast data acquisition

To speed up your IIoT development, an IIoT gateway with built-in fieldbus-based interfaces, protocols, and a data collection method helps reduce the extra cost and efforts to implement additional OT connectivity solutions. The most commonly used fieldbus connectivity is serial ports and tag-based data acquisition with Modbus protocols. IIoT gateways featuring this combination will be able to efficiently collect data from field sites.

Efficient ready-to-run data processing interfaces

To speed up your IIoT development, a pre-configured and easy-to-use data logger can save you time and effort on organising huge amounts of raw data logically and meaningfully. Also, application programming interfaces (APIs) can be used for flexible and customised application development, transforming raw data into useful information for big data analytics or instant responses at the field site.

Connect securely to cloud services

Connecting securely to cloud services through the internet is critical. First, the IIoT gateway requires an Ethernet or cellular interface for an online connection and a frequently used IT communication protocol such as MQTT. Then, a secure method, based on different communication scenarios to avoid unwanted access needs to be implemented. Finally, compatibility with cloud service providers makes it easy to bring data onto a cloud platform.

Accelerate integration, simplify management

In general, IIoT gateways that provide solutions to fulfil the above three steps can speed up IIoT development. However, a truly intelligent IIoT gateway solution should also consider ways to make devices smarter and more rugged for deployment, operation, and maintenance. Moxa’s intelligent IIoT gateway solutions not only include the three aforementioned steps to speed up IIoT development, but also simplify efforts to operate and maintain your IIoT gateways, making them perfect choices for your IIoT applications.

RJ Connect embark on a new method of learning

Employees are a company’s most important asset. Their training and professional development is something that should be heavily invested in.

All RJ Connect salespeople recently started their new journey of ongoing sales development using the Peer2Peer System.

It is a continuous learning program which will run for the next six to eight months. Exciting times lie ahead, and we look forward to using this training for the benefit of our customers.
