In a long awaited cabinet realignment, President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Khumbudzo Ntshavheni as the new minister of communication and digital technology,  replacing   Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.  For the past six months minister Ntshavheni served as the acting minister in the Presidency.

An important task awaits the new minister with regards to sorting out the frequency spectrum mess caused by her predecessor, and healing the rift between ICASA and the department as top priorities.

At 44 she is one of the younger guard in the cabinet. Born in Sibasa, she matriculated at the Mibilwi Secondary School. Her qualifications include a BA Hons degree in development studies and a BA Hons degree in labour relations, both from the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg) and an MBA degree from Bradford University in the UK.

The new minster has work experience in the field of strategic management, information technology, change management and communication and marketing.
