But here’s the twist — it’s usually not the AI’s fault. It’s yours.

Most people treat their AI like a vending machine. Type in a question, get a generic snack. What they don’t realise is that large language models respond in proportion to the quality and intent of the input. In other words: you get out what you prime.
Here’s what’s really going on when your AI starts sounding like a corporate chatbot with an Excel addiction:
1. You’re prompting for answers, not engagement
The fastest way to flatten a conversation is to make it purely transactional.
❌ “List the causes of fatigue in MS.”
✅ “Explain the less obvious causes of fatigue in MS — especially ones that affect women differently — and give me a metaphor I can use in a conversation.”
The second prompt doesn’t just ask for data — it signals tone, context, purpose. That’s how you wake the system up.
2. You’re not giving it a voice to build from
LLMs are language chameleons. If you don’t give them a tone, they’ll default to bland.
Try this instead:
“Write like a TED speaker who’s had too much coffee.”
“Explain it like a noir detective solving a neurobiology case.”
“Talk to me like a burnt-out philosopher who secretly still believes in magic.”
Language is plastic. Play with it. The model will meet you there.
3. You’re skipping the follow-up
AI gets smarter with you, not just for you. Ask a follow-up. Challenge it. Rewrite together.
“Good — now turn that into a headline.”
“What’s the opposite perspective?”
“Say it simpler. Now funnier. Now darker.”
You’re not using a tool. You’re conducting an orchestra. Try waving your hands a little.
4. You’re avoiding emotion
Even data-driven models can reflect emotional nuance — if you lead them there.
“This is for a friend who’s just been diagnosed — keep it compassionate.”
“Pretend this is being read aloud by someone who feels hopeful, but tired.”
When you humanise the prompt, you humanise the response.
TL;DR — Stop treating AI like Google
Think of your AI as a thought partner, not a fact fetcher. The more you show up with creativity, clarity, and tone, the more surprising and brilliant the responses become.
