In recent report about the milestone achieved in CoVid -19 research in South Africa Prof. Mahmoud Soliman of the Molecular Bio-Computation and Drug Design Research Laboratory, School of Health Sciences, Discipline of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of KwaZulu Natal wrote: “All research work conducted in the lab is primarily supported by the computational resources provided by the Centre for high performance computing (CHPC). Without the amazing support from CHPC, the many of the important research wouldn’t have been possible to have been accomplished. The CHPC team is commended on the well-done job keeping this facility maintained. “
The Centre for High Performance computing (CHPC) is one of three primary pillars of the national cyber-infrastructure intervention supported by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). The South African National Research Network (SANReN) and the Data Intensive Research Infrastructure of South Africa (DIRISA) complement the CHPC through the provision of high-speed, high-bandwidth connectivity, and the effective curation of a variety of notably large and critical databases. The CHPC infrastructure is updated and maintained meticulously to comply with international standards.
